Cape Ann Plein Air turns 10, and the week ahead in city meetings

Good morning, Gloucester. It's Sunday, October 4. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Gloucester Daily Brief. A full week of art starts today as Cape Ann Plein Air turns 10.

In this week's Crosscurrents, we are asking about the drought. Rockport has banned all outdoor watering and Gloucester allows hand watering only. What should Cape Ann do before next summer? Let us know what you think at capeanncurrent dot com slash crosscurrents.

Looking at the week ahead in city meetings. On Monday, the City Council Ordinances and Administration Committee meets at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds meets at 9:30 a.m., followed by several other boards. On Wednesday, October 7, the Council on Aging Board meets at 9:30 a.m., with several other committees meeting in the evening. On Thursday, October 8, the School Committee Personnel Subcommittee meets at 11:30 a.m., and the Board of Health meets at 5:30 p.m. alongside the City Council Budget and Finance Committee.

Painters are working outdoors across the area all week for the 10th year of Cape Ann Plein Air. A free opening reception takes place Monday at 6 p.m. at the Beauport Hotel. Also this week, Hammond Castle is free for Gloucester residents on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If you are looking for something to do on Tuesday night, Laneside Pub and Brewery at Cape Ann Lanes hosts Music Video Bingo from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

In local sports, Gloucester football beat Winthrop 28 to 7 on Friday night. The Fishermen won their homecoming game and are now 3 and 1. Looking ahead, the unbeaten Gloucester field hockey team hosts Beverly on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Fiona Black and Mia Rodolosi currently lead the area in scoring.

The National Weather Service expects a mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 60, a chance of showers tonight with a low around 53, and a mostly sunny and milder Monday. High tides in Gloucester Harbor today are at 5:58 a.m. and 6:18 p.m.
