Terms of Use

Effective October 9, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and the Cape Ann Current ("Cape Ann Current," "we" or "us"). They cover capeanncurrent.com, the Morning Current email and anything you submit to us. The Cape Ann Current is an individual project. It is not a business or a nonprofit. By using the site or submitting content, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Who can use the Current

Anyone can read the Current. You must be 13 or older to submit anything, or have a parent, guardian or coach submit for you.

2. Our content

Stories, photos, graphics and the design of the site belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us, and are protected by copyright.

To license our content, email [email protected]. Public records, meeting documents and other material we link to belong to their original sources.

3. Accuracy and reliance

We work hard to get things right and correct mistakes in the open under our Standards and corrections policy. Meeting times, event details, school schedules, weather and tides come from public sources and can change without notice. Check with the town, school or organizer before you rely on them. Weather and tide information is not for navigation or safety decisions. Nothing on the site is legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.

4. What you submit

This covers Crosscurrents entries, news tips, event listings, game reports, photos, corrections and anything else you send us.

You keep ownership. By submitting, you give us a nonexclusive, royalty free, worldwide, permanent license to publish, edit, and distribute your submission in any format, including the website, email and social media, and to credit you as you asked.

We decide what runs. We may edit for length, clarity, accuracy and style, and we may decline or remove any submission at any time.

You promise that your submission:

Anonymous to readers, not to us. If you ask to be anonymous, we will not publish your name, but we may contact you to verify your submission. We will protect your identity to the full extent the law allows.

Tips help our reporting. Sending one does not mean we will write a story, and we decide how any story is reported.

We do not promise the site will always be available or error free.

8. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. Some laws do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

9. Your responsibility for your submissions

If a claim is brought against us because of something you submitted or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of responding, including legal fees.

10. Law and disputes

Massachusetts law governs these terms. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts in Essex County, Massachusetts, or in small claims court where it qualifies. Before filing anything, please email [email protected] so we can try to resolve it.
