Good morning, Essex. It's Wednesday, October 7. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Essex Morning Current. Today we look at how the proposed elementary school compares to others in the state.

The proposed Essex Elementary School would cost about 1,038 dollars per square foot. That is more than six comparable new schools priced by the state since mid 2024, which range from 726 to 964 dollars. The total estimate is 95.3 million dollars. Voters will decide on the plan at town meetings on Monday, November 16, and at the ballot on Thursday, December 10.

The Essex School Building Committee holds a community meeting tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the elementary school cafeteria. Members will give a design and budget update, and review how construction would be phased.

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. today to work on inclusionary housing language and review a project at 82 Eastern Avenue. A joint meeting of the selectmen and Finance Committee was cancelled.

Today, the TOHP Burnham Public Library hosts Wee Ones Story Hour from 9 to 9:30 a.m. A Nature Walk at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum follows from 11 a.m. to noon.

On Tuesday, Manchester Essex girls soccer beat Rockport 6 to 2, and the boys won 2 to 0. The golf team defeated Georgetown 156 to 107. Today, field hockey travels to Amesbury at 4 p.m., and cross country hosts Amesbury at 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny day today with a high near 62 and wind gusts up to 23 miles per hour. Essex River high tides are around 9:28 a.m. and 9:49 p.m.
